In 2004 MusiCares acquired MAP and merged the two programs under the MusiCares banner.

MAP (Musicians' Assistance Program) was created for musicians who were strung out on drugs or alcohol and didn't have a clue what to do about it. Originally it was intended for the sidemen, those musicians who were not household names but were nevertheless indispensable to the creation of music, who never had the cash or insurance to get into treatment. In 1994, MAP's services were expanded to include all music industry professionals. With financial help from artists and other caring people, MAP began to reach out to the suffering addicts and alcoholics in the music industry. In 1996, the R.I.A.A. (Recording Industry Association of America) granted the organization the necessary funds to spread the program throughout the country and has continued its support to the present day.

While acknowledging addiction as the Great Common Denominator, we also understand the fact that music people are sometimes a breed apart. This recognition has been a factor in MAP's great success. We are rightfully proud of that success: the percentage of people staying clean since our inception is far greater than double the national average. MAP's incredible support system of clean and sober music professionals is there to help the recovering addict or alcoholic deal with the world and all those people who are never going to change.

Every member of the music community world who wants treatment for recovery from drug and alcohol addiction will have access to quality care regardless of his or her financial condition;

The mythical connection between music and drugs is forever broken so that the musicians of tomorrow can follow the path that leads to their dreams instead of a path leading to self-destruction. In all our endeavors, this vision shall be the guidepost, ever directing our course. Underlying these precepts are always the principles of confidentiality, honesty and integrity, thereby providing the cornerstone for approaching our mission.

We will be updating the MAP page to include past MAP events and upcoming events for MusiCares/MAP fund.
